Omokoroa and District Lions Club

SERVING THE OMOKOROA COMMUNITY

Lions are a charitable organisation (chartered in 1986) involved in local community activities and events. Our membership currently sits around 25 local men and women from all walks of life and experience. Lions are involved in:

  • Loaning out health aids/equipment for the elderly and people recovering from surgery/illness
  • Running the green waste facility on behalf of the Western Bay of Plenty District Council
  • Awarding annual scholarships for local deserving youth
  • Providing home-baking and produce at the Omokoroa Market (monthly)
  • Keeping our environment litter free
  • Helping other charitable groups with collections and a range of other projects

The Lions motto is: “We Serve” and this is something the local Club does passionately with an emphasis on always having fun and enjoyment with fellow Members as well as the Omokoroa community.

The Club is local and is global – being a part of the largest non-profit service organisation in the world with 1.4 million members in 208 countries. Some of Lions’ global causes include:

  • Vison – saving sight and recycling glasses
  • Feeding the hungry
  • Diabetes – worldwide awareness
  • Childhood cancer
  • Environment – millions of trees planted worldwide along with other projects
  • Disaster relief
  • Youth programmes

In New Zealand:

  • Kidney Kids – collecting can tabs, coffee capsules and wine bottle tops
  • Heads up for Kids – giving old money new value
