Another busy month with schools back in full swing. Please extend a warm welcome to Bex from Positively Together. Bex starts her Dog Training Classes on March 06 from 9.45 AM until 11.15 AM. She is a certified trainer and has been training animals professionally for over 20 years.
Committee Projects Recently Completed
A new “Welcome” sign has been installed (see photos below) on the exterior wall of the main foyer entrance. The panels of wood were sanded back and upcycled from the old small hall kitchen door which was kept when the small hall kitchen was demolished in 2023. Our sincere thanks to the work done by Cory Payne, her husband Brian, along with expert assistance from new committee members Jill Pretty and Bryan Cheshire.
We were also able to recycle and re-purpose some of the wooden floor and wall boards salvaged from the railway hut that housed the Small Hall kitchen and storeroom. The Honours Board which had been installed as a permanent display in our main interior foyer has been made from these native boards.
OSH Centenary
As you will be aware, preparations are underway to celebrate our Centenary in 2029. To bring our hundred-year story together, the Settlers Hall Committee are working in collaboration with the Omokoroa History Group, to create a large historical photo montage of old photos. This montage will become a permanent reminder and story of the importance of a beloved and important community facility over the decades and will be permanently displayed as a feature wall in the main hall foyer.
The OSH Committee are keen to find any photos which help to tell the story of the Halls, through photos depicting events, functions, activities, meetings and people at the Halls over the decades. Photos can be black and white or coloured.
If you can help, with any old photos, the Committee would really love to see them. Please contact Cory on 02102 490 430 or email settlers.hall@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you !
Roadworks
These have certainly tested our patience as the work along Omokoroa Road seems to have been going on without any real end in sight. The good news is that the widening of our driveway has started which will make turning in/out as well as entering/exiting the Halls so much easier.
This work seems to be progressing well and we can see how much wider the driveway is going to be, when it is finished. A new high speed fibre cable is being laid, along with a new water line, along the verge and under the realigned entrance way. The verge will probably stay much the same as it is now and a footpath will be concreted in much the same place as where the loose metal is now.
Once the road frontage and driveway has been completed, the committee will explore design options for new road frontage signs, including installing a large new Omokoroa Settlers Hall sign and upgrading the hirer signs.
We do not know at this stage when the work will be finished, but Higgins have assured us they will keep in touch, if anyone has any questions please let me know.
Please take care entering/exiting the Halls and make sure you keep to the 30 km (on Omokoroa Road) as well as 10 km (within the OSH car park area) speed limits.
