We are continuing to work on trying to identify the source of the sewage smells that are wafting in and around the Halls and surrounding areas, particularly in the mornings from around 7.30 to 9.00 AM.
In consultation with the WBOPDC, Downer have again checked the OSH pipes for blockages – there is NO evidence of blockages in any of our systems or pipeworks. (FYI, smells cannot move through water, so the smell cannot be coming up through the Hall toilets which are regularly checked and always full of water).
We are also working with WBOPDC contractors, WaterCare, who have said they would organise for flares to be placed along the system pipework, to and from the pump station. Flares are (apparently) an excellent way to detect any leakages in the pipes as coloured ga s appears above the ground where any leaks may be. We are hopeful with this approach as the flares are supposed to be a tried and true indicator of leaky, smelly pipes.
In addition, we are also exploring the possibility that there may be other, older pipework, possibly disused but still connected, or an old storm water drain inadvertently connected to a sewage pipe, which may be causing the problem. It really is a process of elimination.
Please be assured the OSH committee are doing their best to resolve this issue. We know it is very unpleasant for everyone. In the meantime, should you experience any smell related issues, we urge you to please call the WBOPDC on their 24/7 hotline number: 0800 926 732 or email them or write.
